If you want something that generates accompaniment live, as opposed to playing back pre-recorded tracks, that demands a certain amount of intelligence in the machine, meaning it requires a computer. If that's the case, go with something like Band in a Box. Otherwise, buy recorded tracks made for jamming and run them through an mp3 or CD player. The latter is cheaper and easier.
